BBC Sherlock S3 Character Alignments
Change Irene Adler with Mary, and you have it right.
As it stands now? Just makes the person who made this a very shitty person.
Mary is inherently good. She has done some bad things for the sake of good - well as far as we can tell. So therefore, she should be Chaotic Neutral.
Irene Adler is only in it for herself. I do not believe she has done anything for the greater good. If she ever has, it’s only been under duress. Therefore, she should be Neutral Evil.
Enough with the Mary bashing.
And no, I’m not bashing Irene here either. I love both characters. It just gets on my fucking nerves when people cast Mary as the villain she most certianly isn’t.
Wow. Out of all the comments I got in this post this is the only one I’m going to answer.
First, maybe do some reading about character alignments. I didn’t make these alignments without actually understanding what each of it means.
This isn’t even Mary wank and you have the audacity to call me a shitty person. These alignments are literally just describing these characters’ moral and ethical perspectives. To give you more information about Mary’s alignment:
A neutral evil villain does whatever she can get away with. She is out for herself, pure and simple. She sheds no tears for those she kills, whether for profit, sport, or convenience. She has no love of order and holds no illusion that following laws, traditions, or codes would make her any better or more noble. On the other hand, she doesn’t have the restless nature or love of conflict that a chaotic evil villain has.
A Neutral Evil character is typically selfish and has no qualms about turning on their allies-of-the-moment, and usually makes allies primarily to further their own goals. They have no compunctions about harming others to get what they want, but neither will they go out of their way to cause carnage or mayhem when they see no direct benefit to it. They abide by laws for only as long as it is convenient for them. A villain of this alignment can be more dangerous than either Lawful or Chaotic Evil characters, since she or he is neither bound by any sort of honor or tradition nor disorganized and pointlessly violent.
Now, while I do agree that Irene can also fit in this alignment because she did manipulate a lot of people, we have never seen her intentionally shoot or harm or threaten somebody on screen.
A Chaotic Neutral character is an individualist who follows his or her own heart, and generally shirks rules and traditions. Although they promote the ideals of freedom, it is their own freedom that comes first. Good and Evil come second to their need to be free, and the only reliable thing about them is how totally unreliable they are. Chaotic Neutral characters are free-spirited and do not enjoy the unnecessary suffering of others, but if they join a team, it is because that team’s goals happen to coincide with their own at the moment. They invariably resent taking orders and can be very selfish in their pursuit of personal goals. A Chaotic Neutral character does not have to be an aimless wanderer; they may have a specific goal in mind, but their methods of achieving that goal are often disorganized, unorthodox, or entirely unpredictable.
I don’t give two shits about what you think of me or if you think Mary’s an angel sent from heaven who was a former assassin, did shoot sherlock and lied to his husband about HER WHOLE BEING and never asked for forgiveness but I WILL NOT ALLOW ANYBODY TO CALL ME SHITTY IN MY OWN POST.
If you do not agree with my alignments, MAKE YOUR OWN FUCKING POST.
